Corrected
statement
To the editor:
I wish to correct a statement in my recent letter to the editor concerning the application of my client, Widewaters Development, for certain assistance from the Columbia County IDA.
Widewaters is seeking a structured tax or PILOT agreement with the IDA for its project in the town of Greenport. We understood that these payments would simply mirror the tax incentives available to it by right under state law. However, it has now been discovered that the town of Greenport withdrew from this incentive program by local law adopted in 1978.
Accordingly, while the IDA can still provide, appropriately, we believe, the tax incentives sought by the applicant, such benefits would not be otherwise available to the applicant for its commercial development in Greenport.
